Pig Roast 2003

2003 PIG ROAST & HUMAN SACRIFICE

THE 27TH ANNUAL PIG ROAST GRAB-BAG DOUBLES TOURNEY WAS HELD ON SATURDAY, JUNE 14TH AT THE BRONSON ATHLETIC CLUB IN KALAMAZOO, MICHIGAN.

THERE WERE 8 TEAMS IN OPEN AND 5 TEAMS IN B. THE HONOREE THIS YEAR WAS CHUCK GLADDING. IN A BLIND DRAW - AND ACTUALLY THE LAST TWO NAMES DRAWN - CHUCK DREW ANDY KASALO AS HIS PARTNER. AFTER HIS INITIAL DISAPPOINTMENT CHUCK BUCKLED DOWN TO THE TASK OF PLAYING THREE TEAMS ON HIS SIDE OF THE DRAW. AFTER GLADDING/KASALO WON THEIR SIDE THEY PLAYED THE WINNER OF THE OTHER SIDE WHO HAPPENED TO BE (I SWEAR IT IS A BLIND DRAW!) THE REGULAR PARTNER TEAM OF SHAHABEZ MALIK AND RICK CLEWIS. THEY HAD A TOUGH GAME WITH MALIK / CLEWIS EVENTUALLY WINNING THE COVETED PIG IRON.

ON THE "B" SIDE THEY PLAYED A FIVE TEAM ROUND-ROBIN. AS IT TURNED OUT ON THAT SIDE THE LAST TWO TEAMS PLAYING EACH OTHER EACH HAD A PERFECT RECORD OF 3 WINS EACH. AFTER THE DUST HAD SETTLED WE HAD THE TEAM OF JOHN ELSASSER AND JOHN GARDNER DEFEATING BILL HART AND CRAIG MELVIN.

THE PARTY WAS A GREAT SUCCESS WITH INCREDIBLY GOOD WEATHER (NO MEAN FEAT AFTER THE LAST FEW WEEKS). THE HONOREE DIDN'T EVEN FLINCH AT THE TRADITIONAL "EATING OF THE PIG'S EYE". BOB BERG WAS AWARDED THE "WOODY" CUP. HE IS A WELL DESERVED RECEPIENT AND WE ARE SURE HE WILL ENJOY MANY A BEER FROM THAT TREASURED MUG.

ALL IN ALL ANOTHER VERY SUCCESSFUL ROAST (AND SACRIFICE).
